Returns (Items Ineligible for Return or that Require Special Handling)

We stand behind our products. Subject to the conditions and exclusions below, items may be returned for replacement, refund, or credit up to 180 days from date of purchase.

Exclusions

  1. Items not in resalable condition, i.e., partially used, opened, altered, or discontinued, cannot be returned for refund or credit unless due to manufacturer’s defect.
  2. Digital products and Carolina Distance Learning® science kits are not refundable.
  3. Prepaid coupons such as vouchers and living material cards are non-refundable and are not redeemable for cash or credit. They are redeemable only for the specific merchandise identified on the prepaid coupon or voucher.
  4. If you are not satisfied with your living organisms or prepared media, you must notify Customer Service within 30 days from date of receipt for a replacement, refund, or credit. Please see the website product listing page returns section for your item if you have any questions.

Items Ineligible for Return

  • Broken Glassware – Ex. Broken test tubes, beakers, aquariums, etc.
  • Leaked or Spilled Material – If a liquid item has spilled, the customer does not need to return the item or any other items that may have been affected by the spill.
  • Living/Perishable Material – Returns for living material will only be accepted with product manager’s approval or if requested by department. If visual evidence is needed, have the customer email a picture or pictures of the item (Example, contaminated agar plates).
  • Items Under $25 – If the item is under $25 in value and the error/reason is Carolina’s or the shippers, we do not require that the item be returned unless requested by the department. If the error/reason is on the customer’s end, they may return the item for credit but keep in mind that the shipping costs incurred by the customer may possibly outweigh or significantly offset the value of their credit.
  • Distance Learning Kits – Once the kit has left the warehouse, they are NON-RETURNABLE.

Items Requiring Special Handling for Return

  • Hazardous Chemicals - Prepaid labels should not be sent for return of hazardous chemicals, nor should customers return these items themselves. Call Mike Richardson (ext. 6343) or Phebe Bowman (ext. 6325) to arrange pickup of any hazardous chemicals for return. If you are unsure if a chemical needs special handling for return, contact Mike or Phebe for confirmation.
  • Drop Shipments - Returns of drop-shipped items will incur a restocking fee if the product is returned for any reason other than shipping damage or manufacturer defect. In ALL cases involving drop shipments, submit a ticket in the Supply Chain Management Service desk so purchasing can coordinate the return of the item to the vendor.
  • High Value Items – Purchase orders returns with an item valued more than $100 must be handled as credit with return and a new sales order must be keyed for the item. (Using the original PO #). Once the return is received, the credit will be released. This protects us against the possibility of a customer receiving a free replacement and not returning the initial shipment. For credit card orders, process as a standard replacement with return.  Any questions call 7050.
  • Amazon Instruct customer to look at their Amazon order history for the item(s) they wish to return. From their order history, they must click “Return Authorization Request”. The customer will fill out some information, including a reason for the return. An email from Amazon will then be generated and sent to the Web Team. At this point, the Web Team will either process the return or deny the return depending on the circumstances.
  • Donors Choose – All credits with return for Donors Choose orders must be processed on a credit with return form and forwarded via email to Duwana Rillo or Tyrah Chisholm or Tina Mansfield.
